The Expo 2008, themed"Water and Sustainable Development," was held in Zaragoza, Spain, from June 14 to Sept. 14, 2008. China sent a high-level government delegation to attend this event and built a China Pavilion with the theme of"Man and Water: The Return of Harmony."

Located between Madrid and Barcelona, Zaragoza is the administrative capital of the autonomous community of Aragon and Spain's fifth most populous city, covering an area of 17.25 square kilometers and with a population of 650,000. With the Ebro River—Spain's largest river—flowing through, the city enjoys convenient transportation and good infrastructure.

The Expo 2008 Zaragoza provided a unique opportunity for countries to demonstrate their contributions to the innovation of world water culture. Products related to water were displayed at the Expo, such as hydropower equipment, water conservation equipment, purification equipment, and freshwater treatment and recycling equipment that are conducive to the sustainable development of cities.

A number of themed events and video conferences were held during the World Expo Water Forum. Officials, experts, the media, and the public around the world were invited to discuss water problems faced by mankind at the forum.

The Expo, attended by 80 countries and international organizations, received 8 million visits.
