China Pavilion secured a big success after 182 days of opening

China Pavilion, also called the“Light of China,” brought down its curtain on March 31, marking a successful end to its 182-day journey at the Expo 2020 Dubai. 

China Pavilion has been widely praised for its unique architecture, and rich and splendid exhibitions and activities. The pavilion has clinched a bronze prize for large and XL pavilions in the architecture category. It is the fourth time in a row that China Pavilion has won an award at the expo.

Covering an area of 4,636 square meters, China pavilion was one of the largest foreign pavilions of the expo. Themed“Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind – Innovation and Opportunity,” the pavilion mainly displayed China’s innovation achievements in space exploration, information technology, modern transportation, artificial intelligence, and intelligent life, and presented BeiDou Navigation Satellite, China’s high-speed railway, sea rice, intelligent robot, and other core exhibits. China Pavilion was the only one in the expo park that staged light shows and drone shows every night, making it an attraction at the Expo. China Pavilion has received a total of 1.76 million visitors, including 133 high-ranking officials and 41 representatives from participating countries. In addition, China Pavilion was the first to establish and operate the“cloud China Pavilion,” attracting 1.45 million online visitors. Among the top 10 highlights introduced by the Dubai Expo organizer, two belonged to China Pavilion, which was hailed as one of the most popular, most distinctive and most exciting national pavilions. 

On Oct. 1, 2021, China pavilion held its opening ceremony and General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered a speech via video link. General Government Representative of China Pavilion Zhang Shenfeng, Chinese Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ni Jian, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and other senior officials attended the ceremony at China Pavilion. More than 60 people, including friends from China and Arab countries, representatives of Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese, and Chinese and foreign journalists also attended the event, and about 500,000 people watched it online.

On Jan. 10, splendid activities were carried out to celebrate the National Pavilion Day at China Pavilion. Vice Premier Hu Chunhua sent a written speech to the celebration, stating that China is ready to work with Arab countries to enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation in various fields under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and further enrich China-Arab comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the 182-day exhibition, 24 theme weeks, 12 enterprise days, and other activities have brought about multi-level and multi-field international exchanges and presented a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China to the world.“Resplendent Hubei,”“Colorful Yunnan,”“Anhui Science and Technology,”“Intelligent Zhejiang,”“Guangxi along the Silk Road,” and other displays with various themes have treated visitors to abundant“Chinese styles.” Through these activities, Chinese enterprises have signed more than 100 cooperation agreements with companies in the United Arab Emirates and other businesses in the Middle East and Africa, covering energy, food, and infrastructure. Managing Director for Expo 2020 Dubai Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy and other senior Arab officials spoke highly of the wonderful activities of China Pavilion.

China Pavilion offered artistic performances, intangible cultural heritage exhibition and performances, and film screening, building a bridge of friendship between the people. China Pavilion hosted dragon and lion dances, folk music performances, Tai Chi and martial arts performances every week, attracting a number of visitors. Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, the mascots of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, took center stage at China Pavilion, enabling Dubai to experience the vibe of ice and snow. 

During the Chinese Lunar New Year, events such as“Experience China,” the livestreaming of 2022 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Hanfu (traditional Chinese apparel) display, cheongsam promotion, paper-cutting teaching, and“China’s Wandering Elephant Herd” exhibition, added a strong Chinese flavor to the Dubai Expo.
